Immigration - Essay - Term Paper

The immigrant experience in the United States was one that consisted of a drastic transition in peasant life which uprooted citizens from their native villages. Their villages served not only as their homes and workplaces, but as communities and as a way of identifying themselves as a people. However, varying political and economic upheavals in their homelands caused them to seek out other options, as it came down to a matter of do or die for many, not a matter of choice. Once in America, they had to struggle with the unfamiliarity and alienation that was thrust upon them in the New World. The situation of uprootedness was not limited to the English or Irish, but to peasants in other countries, as well, including the Italians, Chinese, and Mexicans.

The Italians fled from their villages in flocks of millions at the end of the 19th century . Although reluctant to leave their established communities, the high cost of oil, along with widespread starvation and cholera outbreaks forced them to make the trip overseas.# Italians did not migrate out of their own volition, but rather because “Life was impossible here. …America has become a disease, but out of necessity.” stated the president of an Italian agricultural society.# They were forced to leave because there became no other options, although pamphlets, posters, and word-of-mouth did tell fantastic stories of the dazzling new life that awaited them in America. # Italian communities were uprooted suddenly, and many did not have time to make plans for their new lives in America. After arriving in America, the peasants worlds were turned upside down, and many fostered warm affections toward the familiarity of their home country.#

Similarly, the Chinese were driven out of their communities and into a world of alienation and isolation. Chinese people were uprooted out of their communities through the waning Manchu government, and were forced to deal with the ridicule of Americans at their old practices and customs. The white Americans paid little attention to them, and actually developed an animosity toward them as job competition ensued.# Although they did not acculturate with American society, many of their festivals and rituals vanished from their lives while in America. After death, many had their bones sent back overseas to China, since the funeral procession was one of the few traditions that they held onto, and didn’t want to be buried alongside their hostile American neighbors.# The Chinese did not merely have their communities transplanted overseas, but rather had them abruptly ripped apart when settling over in America.

The Mexicans were forced to move out of their country after a chaotic series of political and economic uproars, caused primarily by the Mexican Revolution.# The farm-workers and miners now lived in company-owned settlements in which every aspect of their lives were regulated, and some even considered it to be worse than the serfdom back home in Mexico.# Although some did succumb to Americanization, most resisted the adoption of American culture and were adamant on keeping their Mexican heritage and ways. Mexican children were only permitted to speak Spanish at home, and they retained close bonds with their close neighbors to the South.# Prejudice and segregation were dominant themes in their lives, and they were described as an “illiterate, diseased, pauperized” people in an article.# The Mexicans had their communities uprooted, and did not simply decide to move toward the unwelcoming lands of America out of choice.

The role of the village played a crucial role in the lives of people everywhere. The shared community gave them a sense of security and power in their lives. By saying that communities were uprooted, one is saying that these people were forced away from their homes and everything they’d ever known, and shoved into a completely unfamiliar territory. These people, not only Europeans, but also the Chinese, and Mexicans were forced to learn how to survive in an often unwelcoming foreign land. They did not simply pick up and move voluntarily, but out of necessity of the situation.

How To Be a Champion in Your Life

Are you left with inspiration but no action after hearing, reading, and watching stories about other people who are successful? If so, you’re not alone. I’ve got a question for you: Why watch Oprah when you can be on Oprah instead? Don’t you see different guests on her show every day? They’re people just like you. They didn’t start out on Oprah, they ended up there and it wasn’t by luck either. They changed their lives to get there.

Wouldn’t you like to experience some of that success for yourself? It’s not difficult at all. You just need to learn how to redirect the thoughts and energy you’re using already. You’re getting results, but they may not be the results you really want. What Does being a Champion in your life mean to YOU?

Being self-employed?

Making a certain amount of money per year?

Living in the city that you really want to live in?

Having more free time?

Having more vacation time with your family?

Living in your dream home?

Having effective communication with your family?

Having the relationship you’ve always wanted with someone who understands you?

Having free time for volunteer work or community service?

Having a family?

Having a deep sense that you’re making a contribution to the world

Visiting all the cities and countries you’ve wanted to visit?

Being able to hire a nanny or cleaning person?

Being the best mother, daughter, father, son or friend you can be?

Driving the car you’ve always wanted to drive?

Having the furniture to fill your dream home?

Writing the book you’ve always wanted to write?

Creating the inventions in your head?

Taking action on the ideas in your head that never get out of your head?

Being able to hire an interior designer?

Having the wardrobe you’ve always wanted?

Having more closet space?

Having the free time to dream and imagine?

Meeting a famous person you’ve always admired?

Having the financial resources to contribute to people and causes you love?

Having a personal trainer?

Getting and staying on track with your diet?

Having a lean toned body?

Learning what you’ve always wanted to learn?

Going to school to get a degree?

Being the best when you do your favorite activities?

Doing the things you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t done?

Whatever it is for you, you can have it!

Maybe this is hard for you to believe because you aren’t satisfied with the life you’re living today. Well, your present circumstances don’t determine your future. We have plenty of examples to show us that this isn’t true.

Think of where these people started in life and how they’ve ended up: Bill Gates, Stevie Wonder, Helen Keller, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Eckhart Tolle, Anthony Robbins, Steven Speilberg, Julia Roberts, Colonel Sanders, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi (the obvious choices), most professional athletes, most professional musicians and so many others.

They all started out as babies with nothing but personal passion to fuel them on to creating wonderful lives. They all took different roads to climb their individual mountains of success, but they all got there by being focused and by taking action consistently.

Every successful person you have ever known or heard of has had help to create effective results in their lives. They all got where they wanted to go in life. It just took some support. Olympic athletes, businessmen and women, parents, students, salespeople, writers, artists anyone can have what they want.

If you don’t have enough belief in yourself or you don’t have enough support from those around you, then having a coach or mentor can make the difference for you. Working with a qualified coach can support you in succeeding the simple way instead of trying to re-invent the wheel to get results the hard way.

If you’d like more inspiration and direction in becoming a champion visit www.AngryEnoughToChange.com.

An ancient Chinese proverb says, “If we don’t change where we’re going we’ll probably end up there.” Do you want to end up where you’re headed right now?

Think about what it would look like for you to be a champion in your life. Take action in that direction, no matter how small, to start creating it today.

As simple as it sounds, just taking one small step in this direction can lead you to the life you really want. Every destination you’ve arrived at started with one step whether it was in the right or wrong direction.

If you ever look at your life and think, “How did I get here and how do I get out?” then this simple step may open the door to the path you’re looking for.

Improve Your Health While Saving Money on Pure Water

Is Bottled Water the Answer?

Nothing is more important to our health than drinking lots of pure water. All of the complex biochemical functions in our bodies depend on this key substance. Along with regulating the many micro-processes in our cells, it’s essential in absorbing and transporting all nutrients and oxygen throughout the body. It’s equally critical in eliminating wastes and toxins from the body. At a time when we are exposed to increasing levels of environmental toxins from our food, air, and water, the conventional wisdom to “drink 6 to 8 glasses of clean water per day for optimum health” is more important than ever before.

Unfortunately, as most people now know, most sources of drinking water are also contaminated with a wide variety of toxins. As a result, increasing numbers of people are now using water filters and are spending large sums of money annually on bottled water.

It is not so widely known, however, that an FDA survey has stated that 31% of the 52 brands of bottled water tested were tainted with bacteria. Similarly, a study conducted by the National Resources Defense Council on 103 brands of bottled water found that about one-third of them contained levels of contamination–including synthetic organic chemicals, bacteria, and arsenic. Moreover, there is growing evidence that xenoestrogens can leach out of the plastic bottles into the water when they are stored for long periods in either hot or very cold environments.

So many Americans, in spite of spending over $1,000 a year on bottled water, may still be exposing themselves to a significant level of toxins. These two facts taken together provide a major incentive for considering a new alternative to bottled water. It’s called “WELLNESS WATER.”

A Brief History of Wellness Water

Around 30 years ago, Haru Naito left Japan to attend the State University of New York. After winning the NCAA swimming championship there, he returned to Japan to coach Japan’s National Swimming Team. Through his devotion to improving the performance of his swimmers, he became involved in the emerging field of sports medicine. This led him to start investigating the unusual levels of health, vitality, and longevity of certain ethnic groups, including the Hunza of Pakistan.

As a result of his extensive research with this group, he concluded that their extraordinary health and longevity was largely due to their water supply. Through careful analysis of this water, he discovered that it had certain unique features as a result of being filtered through minerals of volcanic origin.

During the following years, he continued to investigate the effects of filtering water through similar volcanic minerals in Japan until he developed water with properties very similar to those he had discovered with the Hunza. The final result of his ongoing research was the development of the “Wellness Filter.”

Following the circulation of many anecdotal reports throughout Japan about the health benefits of drinking water that had been conditioned by this special filter, the Japanese Ministry of Health conducted rigorous scientific testing of this filter. This resulted in an unprecedented governmental endorsement of the filter. It has now been installed in over 100 government hospitals in Japan, and one of its mineral components has been licensed in Japan as a medicinal mineral.

It was introduced into the U.S. for the first time in 2000. Research here has added further documentation of the many health benefits of this enhanced “wellness water,” not only for humans, but also for chickens and cows. (A link to an extensive online summary of this research can be found by clicking on the URL provided at the end of this article.)

How to Have Your Own Portable Supply of Wellness Water

Very recently, the “Wellness Filter” has become available in a 16 oz. Wellness Sport Enhanced Water Bottle.
Through the use of this unique bottle, ordinary tap water is instantly transformed into purified ENHANCED water. Not only is this water at least as pure as the best bottled water, it also alters the water so that it: 1) increases the ease of absorption, helping your body absorb nutrients and rid itself of toxins; 2) adds trace minerals for cellular health; and 3) adds reduced ions for an anti-oxidant and anti-aging effect.

In additon to being superior in all of these ways to bottled water, Wellness Water is also much less expensive. Depending on the particular brand of bottled water used as a price comparison, the savings can range from $160 to over $1,000 per year.

Finally, using this Wellness Sport Enhanced Water Bottle as an alternative to bottled water eliminates the expense and burden on the environment of disposing of approximately 1,000 plastic bottles per person each year.

The Wellness Sport Enhanced Water Bottle is now being distributed in the U.S. exclusively by only one American company. To get further information, including how to purchase it, please click on the URL below.

Feng Shui in the Garden

“The Ancient Art of Placement” called Feng Shui (pronounced phung schway) literally means ‘wind’ and ‘water.’ The Chinese believe this cosmic energy, called Chi or ‘the green dragon’s cosmic breath,’ is the life force energy that pervades human existence. The basic tenet of Feng Shui is to capture this vital energy creating balance and harmony in our environments. Feng Shui is predicated on the core belief that we, the earth, and every living thing on it are interconnected.

Feng Shui is the oldest form of gardening dating back several millennia to China. It is based on the philosophy that man and nature must live in harmony with one another and that all life is infused with the invisible energy called Chi. This force circulates throughout our environment and is essential to our well-being, health, and happiness. The Chinese sages believed that any man-made feature could affect the flow of Chi so established the rules of placement that are central to this philosophy.

In the Feng Shui garden, balance and harmony are the key factors. Balance and harmony are achieved by careful attention to detail and the balance of Yin and Yang energy. Yin energy includes the earth, rocks, ponds, plants, flowers, and trees. Yang energy includes the home, brick, wood, nails, and other solid construction. The fundamental characteristics of Feng Shui gardening are:

Curved lines rather than straight allow natural energy to flow more easily.

Feng Shui gardens are never crowded.

Feng Shui gardens are designed to look as natural as possible.

Mixing shapes and sizes is a vital element in Feng Shui gardens.

The Chi, or cosmic energy, needs to flow freely and smoothly through its surroundings in order to create harmony and balance in the garden. Yin and Yang together constitute the two forms of energy central to the concept of Feng Shui principles and define the quality of the energies in any space.

Yin energy constitutes the feminine energy and its elements are shadows, darkness, winter, night-time, wet, soft, receptive, passive, negative, inner, north, creation, earth, and is symbolized by the moon. Yang energy constitutes the masculine energy and its elements are light, openness, vigour, growth, summer, daytime, spirit, dry, hard, active, positive, sky, heaven, south, outer, energetic, and is symbolized by the sun. Yin and Yang energies are complementary to each other.

The Feng Shui of your house influences your life from a personal point of view. The Feng Shui of your garden influences the outer aspect of your house and influences the more public view of your life. The front garden is more Yang while the back garden is more Yin and the private side of your life. The best way to examine the Feng Shui of your garden is to treat your entire property as a single unit.

Plants that exhibit Yang energy include large-leafed plants that create a powerful presence and create good Feng Shui when placed beside water features such as a pond or fountain. These plants contrast nicely with feathery foliage plants such as ferns. Plants that exhibit Yin energy include ferns that help to dissolve any negative energy in the garden. Hanging plants will lift energy or allow energy to flow. It is a good idea to hang baskets around areas where you like to socialize. Window boxes encourage beneficial Chi toward the home.

Want to Get Along Better With Others - Try the DISC Approach

Ever notice how much of your work involves dealing with people? Have you noticed, too, that they don’t necessarily follow the script you have written for them? And, when they don’t, it can be fun, interesting, disappointing, frustrating and even downright painful depending on the situation.
Sometimes, people aren’t even trying to disagree with you, they are just behaving naturally. However, their natural way of achieving the result you seek can be 180 degrees different from the way you would have approached the solution.

There’s hope. Welcome to DISC, a universal communication language to understand and discuss interpersonal concerns. It’s a relatively simple model that helps us better comprehend the complexity of human behavior.

The four major behavior patterns are Dominance (Dauntless), Influence (Indefatigable), Steadiness (Supportive) and Conscientiousness (Careful). These are the four types of responses people have to their environment (which is everything other than yourself), and the assessment tool measures individual’s perceptions. The words in parenthesis are the names I have given the styles when I adapted them to people’s natural networking styles in Breakthrough Networking: Building Relationships That Last.

Dominant and Influencing styles are assertive, fast-paced and bold. They are comfortable trying to change their environment and make it more suitable for themselves. Dominant styles try to change it by facing issues directly and overcoming opposition. They use an authoritative, even steam roller, approach when necessary.

People with Influencing styles try to shape the environment through their natural charisma. They can sell bridges without water.

People with Steadiness and Conscientious tendencies are more moderate-paced and careful and can be comfortable yielding to the environment. Steadiness styles think if they cooperate with others within existing circumstances all will work out. They are the ultimate team player.

Conscientious styles like to work cautiously within existing circumstances to ensure quality. They are precise and like to follow the rules.

People with Dominant and Conscientious tendencies tend to be more skeptical and are likely to question and challenge what is happening in their environment.

Those with Influencing and Steadiness tendencies perceive the environment as more positive; they are more accepting and agreeable. (”It’s great to be alive. I can’t wait to attend that networking breakfast. I’ll meet so many prospects. Oh, and dinner and the theatre tonight will be a wonderful end to the day!”).

Each of you is a combination of all four styles; however, you usually show a preference for one or more of the styles because you find it more comfort to behave that way. Once you better understand what makes you and other act and react the way you do, you will improve your people-reading skills and be able to modify and adapt your behavior in different situations. People like to be interacted with in their style, not yours. Yes, you may have to stretch; however, it will help you improve customer service, make the sale, manage better, reduce conflict, improve communication and build stronger relationships.

Dominant styles are easy to detect. Some people nickname them, “The Intimidator.” They sport a strong handshake, steady eye contact, self-confidence and an aura that may cause less powerful people to quiver and shake. They prosper by solving challenges, forgetting often they are a challenge for others. They don’t get ulcers; however, they are carriers.

They thrive as presidents, managers and supervisors. Problems may arise when employees who also sport this style have to work for someone who is a high “D.” Suggestion: Give the employee responsibility, and the authority, to get the job done. Don’t look over his/her shoulders. Stick with the due date you gave.

In general, Dominant styles are risk takers and like bottom-line results. Give them brief, direct answers. Don’t tell them how you arrived at the answer … just give them the facts. Value them for their “big picture” approach and the visionaries they are and hire others to carry out the details.

Provide them with an environment that includes many new and varied activities (they like to multi task), prestige and power and opportunities for individual accomplishments.

Influencers are truly “people” people. Hell for them is a locked room with no one else in it. They simply need to talk. And talk and talk. Most people talk at 160 words a minute. High “Is” comfortably speak at 400 words a minutes, with gusts up to 700 words a minutes. They thrive in public relations and sales … and can become even more effective when they improve listening skills and learn to focus and strategize more.

They are incredibly persuasive and are the chosen ones to promote events, policies or whatever else you want to “sell.” They can think on their feet and turn on a dime. Use them as your cheerleaders for new projects and products and anytime you want to energize the troops.

They definitely need help with time management and organizational skills. They file on the floor and probably have not seen the top of their desk since they first sat down behind it.

To energize them, provide a favorable, friendly environment. You may have to apply the brakes to their small talk else you may never get off the phone … or get back to your office. They can be like the bunny that just keeps going!

Give them their opportunity in the spotlight, and they will be eternally grateful. They were born to talk in front of groups. Just make sure they have an agenda, else they may never get to the point. They start networking in the parking lot and may be late for the event inside even if they arrived early … in the parking lot!

Steadiness styles are just as their moniker indicates: Amicable, calm, harmonious, pleasant, sincere and soothing. They are like a sedative on feet! They prefer an environment in which everyone gets along. They dislike conflict and become turtle-like when it occurs. Their hope is that when stick their neck back out, the disagreements will have been resolved. They need help in resolving conflict … especially with Dominant styles that want to settle differences head on.

People with the Steadiness tendencies are by far the best listeners, and are often cornered by the Influencers who find them such a willing audience. In fact, the Steady people often have to interrupt to signal they are ready to move on … after an hour of being so polite!

Job loss or divorce is particularly hard for people with this style. It disrupts the security that is so important to them.

To make these people most comfortable, provide a sincere, personal and agreeable environment. Be patient in word and action. Draw them out by asking open-ended questions, being careful not to thrust them into the spotlight … where they are not comfortable. Show them through your actions that you are trustworthy. If you are a Dominant or Influencing style, slow down and let them catch up. You can wear them out just by being you! Greet them with a smile …and support their causes.

People with Conscientiousness tendencies are analytical, quality control people who make sure things are done right. Usually, they think they can do it “most right” and prefer doing things themselves and working alone. As managers, they have sticky fingers and micro-manage. (At home, their checkbooks have to balance to the penny. There’s trouble ahead when they share an account with an Influencing person who is happy if his/hers is within $20 of what the bank shows!)
They seem to have computers in their heads that are processing around the clock.

Conscientious styles like to compare what is said to their internal database. If it fits, they keep it; if not, they discard it. They spent a lot of time evaluating, processing and deciding and, therefore, they are the least verbal of all the styles … even stoic, at times. They like to make sure they have considered every angle before they present an answer.

Prepare your case in advance and logically present pros and cons and as much data as you can find (they actually read all of it!). Don’t try to schmooze them; they think logically, not emotionally, and are often turned off by the mere thought of networking … and even conversation, at times. Become comfortable with pauses when you do engage them in conversation, they need to analyze. If you interrupt them, they will need to start the analysis over … from the beginning. Concentrate on their body language since they try hardest to conceal their feelings. On the phone, give them time to respond. Don’t ask if they are still there!

Here are exaggerated (or maybe not!) examples of the four different styles doing the same activity:

Listening skills

“D” - About the only time they really listen is when what you are saying fits their agenda. Also, they like you to get to the bottom line quickly.

“I” - It’s hard for them to listen or even sit or stand still for long. They have so much to say and so much energy that they prefer to be talking most of the time.

“S” - They try to understand what you are saying and pay attention even if they are not that interested. They don’t want to hurt their feelings.

“C” - They assess what is being said and listen for consistency. They respond only after they have carefully formulated an answer.

You can tell if you are showing too much of your style when you:

D - arrive at work at 8 am and by 8:05 no one is talking to you.

I - organize a “victory party” before you get the project, when you get it, four times during the project, and after it is finished

S - alphabetize and color code your own and your co-workers file … without being asked

C - form a quality control group to make sure everyone gets the same size piece of lasagna in the company cafeteria

Remember the Platinum Rule in your dealings with customers and cohorts: Treat others as they want to be treated, not necessarily how you think they should be treated. Try to see the situation through their eyes, and it will help you understand and respect why they are behaving as they are. When they do the same for you, you will reduce conflict and improve communication and together positively impact the bottom line!

Historical background

Historically, behavior has been grouped into four styles or temperaments. According to legend, Zeus empowered four gods to make man more god-like. Around 450 BC, Greek physicians Hippocrates and Galen wrote about four temperaments that were determined by the type of “humor” or body fluid that dominated a person’s internal composition.

This theory remained popular throughout the Middle Ages. The temperaments were considered mutually exclusive, i.e., an individual possessed only one of them.

Psychologist Wilhelm Wundt, recognized as the founder of experimental psychology, theorized around the mid-19th century that people possess degrees of two characteristics: quickness/slowness and strength/weakness. He abandoned the earlier exclusivity theory by saying it was possible to have both in varying degrees.

When William Marston published The Emotions of Normal People in 1928, he was the first to identify the four behavioral styles as dynamic and situational. In his introduction to the condensed version of Marston’s book, Dr. John Geier says that:
” . . . one individual could possess many traits and that the intensity of traits within the person might indicate a difference in behavior.”

It was Geier who created an assessment tool by adapting the list of adjectives Marston had used to describe the different styles. He created what is commonly referred to as the DISC model of behavior.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease that is constant and never ending.
It can be recognized by red patches of skin that are covered
with white scales. People with Psoriasis usually have this red
scaling looking rash on various parts of their body including
the genitals, ears, elbows, knees, bell button, bottom and even
the scalp.

There are over five million people in the United States that
have been diagnosed with Psoriasis. This cause of Psoriasis is
from hasty replication of skin cells that structure a
substantial exterior layer of skin. This condition can be either
mild all the way to severe.

Psoriasis
is thought to be a disorder of the immune system. What scientist
now believe is that a white blood cell that is called a T cell
believes it is protecting the body and begins the fast cell
growth and inflammation. But, more research does need to be done
in order to ensure this is the exact cause.

There are many things that can bring on the onset of Psoriasis
including a skin injury, infection, sunburn, stress, and some
medications,

There is no known cure for Psoriasis, but some medications can
reduce some of the symptoms associated with this condition. Not
everyone will receive the same effect. It is best to talk with
your physician before trying any type of medication or herb for
your relief.

Topicals are creams that can aid is relieving some of the
inflammation and discomfort due to Psoriasis. Some of the
topicals include Anthralin, Dovonex, Salicylic acid, Tar,
Tazorac, and Corticosteroids.

UVB phototherapy has also been helpful. This treatment exposes
the skin to a UVB light source. It is believed the ultraviolet
light works on restoring the normal growth of the skin cells.

Prescribed medications called systemic medications work on the
entire body and are normally used for people with severe
psoriasis. Some of these medications include Biologics,
Cyclosporine, Methotrexate, Soriatane, Hydrea, mycophenolate
mofetil, Accutane, 6-Thioguanine and sulfasalazine.

Many people are now trying alternative ways to aid in the relief
of Psoriasis. Some of these include magnets, acupuncture,
Ayurvedic medicine, Chiropractic, Homeopathic medicine , Chinese
medicine, Naturopathic medicine, and herbal remedies.

Diets can also be changed to help with Psoriasis. Adding such
items to your diet such as zinc, garlic, ginseng and enzymes,
fish oil, evening primrose oil and shark cartilage all have been
used in patients with Psoriasis. It is best to talk with your
physician before you change your diet or add other supplements
to your diet.

Sun and water have also showed some improvement in people with
Psoriasis. The heat from the sun even has benefits to arthritis
associated with psoriasis.

Inspirational Thought For The Day

Are you ready for your inspirational thought for the day? When you first read it, it may seem too simple. However, if you think about it for even a moment, you’ll see that the implications are profound - and inspiring. This is t:

“Whatever goals you have in your life, and no matter where you are start, someone has succeeded at something similar or even more difficult, starting with less than you have.”

There may be some of you out of the six billion on the planet for whom this doesn’t apply. Perhaps some really want to do things that are far beyond anything a man or woman has ever done, so I apologize to the fifty of you. As for the rest of you, what do you want?

Want a loving partner? Somebody less attractive, charming and intelligent than you is getting happily married somewhere today. Want to create a new food and successfully market it? You probably already have more resources than Harlan Sanders had when he started trying to sell his Kentucky Fried Chicken. Want a big beautiful home? Three or more people in your town have such a home after being poorer than you at some point in their lives.

Is This An Inspirational Thought?

Anthony Hopkin’s character, in the movie “The Edge,” says “What one man can do, another can do.” He goes on to kill the bear that is stalking him. What if you aren’t as strong, as rich, or as smart as others? Not all those who have done great things were always stronger, smarter and richer than you. Just like them, you can learn the right things, take the right actions and put in the effort. This is why this is an inspirational thought. See where some people started from, and you’ll find yourself saying, “Hey! If he can do it, I can too.”

I told a guy he could save money to buy a home, and he claimed he just didn’t have any extra to save. He forget that he already knew several people who were making less money than him and surviving just fine. If he lived like those people for a while, couldn’t he bank the difference? (Just say yes - finding reasons why you can’t do something is a terrible habit to encourage.)

Would you like a date for this Friday? How? Here’s a clue: An awkward young man asked a woman friend why he couldn’t get a date. She asked if he had asked anyone out. After he thought about it for a moment he said, “No.” “That’s why,” she told him. Better example: I know a jerk who always had a date - after asking twenty women a week out. These are lessons, aren’t they? If a geek and a jerk can get a date, you can too, right?

Colonel Sanders drove around in an old van living off his social security check as 900 restaurants told him they were not interested in his recipe. One eventually said yes, and he eventually made millions of dollars. Maybe this could inspire us to try something more than three times?

People come here with little money and speaking little English and end up owning restaurants and stores. If you want to own a restaurant or store, find out how they do it. There are almost three million millionaires in the U.S. If you really want millions, read their stories, talk to them, and learn how to make money. Whatever you want to do, someone has done it, starting from a worse situation than yours. If they can do it, you can too. This is your inspirational thought for the day.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filter

Tap water often contains impurities like phosphates, nitrates and heavy metals. Reverse osmosis water is compartively pure and is odorless and colorless. Water purified via reverse osmosis is free of dissolved minerals. It has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. Reverse osmosis water does not contain fluoride, which is sometimes found in tap water.

Reverse osmosis water is also free from sulfates, arsenic, aluminum, radioactivity, salts, detergents, bacteria and most viruses. It is classified as soft water, since all hardness is removed during the process of reverse osmosis.

Reverse osmosis water is acidic in nature. The removal of alkaline mineral from water produces acidic water. Acidic water can be dangerous to the body system, causing calcium and other essential minerals to be stripped from bones and teeth, in order to neutralize its acidity.

Reverse osmosis water is useful in aquariums that breed fish originating from the Amazon River. The massive amount of rainwater that flows through the Amazon causes the water to contain very few minerals. The tap water in most homes contains too many dissolved minerals, which makes it difficult for fish caught from Amazon River water to survive. Many fish from the Amazon River basin remain healthier and are much more likely to breed in aquariums that use tap water passed through a Reverse Osmosis filter.

Although reverse osmosis does extract several contaminants from drinking water, its removal capabilities are not ideally suited to the challenges of municipally treated water. Municipal water contains such contaminants as chlorine and volatile organic chemicals. Since these contaminants are physically smaller in size than water, the semi-permeable membrane cannot prohibit them from passing through with the water.

In spite of this shortcoming, reverse osmosis water is becoming very popular amongst Americans, because the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

Shih Tzu - Submissive Urination/Sanitation

If your puppy gets excited and wets herself, especially when you
have company or when you first arrive from being away from her,
this is called “submissive urination.” This kind of urination is
different from breaks in house training. Puppies often outgrow
the problem as they do not have good bladder control. The older
dog that does this may be lacking self-esteem.

Although dogs do not have the intelligence like a human in some
areas such as being spiteful and mis-behaving, they do have some
psychological aspects to their behaviors.

In a case such as this it helps if the owner will try to become
deliberately less threatening. Avoid directly staring at your
dog. Kneel down closer to his level rather than standing over
him and encourage your dog to come to you rather than reaching
out to get her. Your tone of voice should be soft and coaxing.
Never, never punish a dog for submissive urination. Your dog is
already submitting to you, “over-submitting,” and you want to
try and reverse some of this.

If any of your guests or family members have been agressive with
your shih tzu, protect him and ask that they not approach him
because of this problem of submissive urination you are
experiencing with him.

It might be helpful to invite a cooperative friend or family
member to sit on the floor and quietly talk with you. At first,
ignore the shih tzu. If your shih tzu has not urinated at this
point have the friend or family member speak a few words very
quietly and gently to the dog, but from a distance. If the dog
still does well, repeat the exercise the next day. If things
still continue to go well, ask your friend or family member to
pay just a bit more attention to your shih tzu and get just a
little bit closer to him. Continue having these sessions,
gradually increasing the visitor’s and your contact with the
dog. If the dog urinates, backtrack and reduce the time spent.
As the dog matures submissive urination should get better and as
the shih tzu learns he does not have to be extremely submissive
to you.

Tips On Sanitation:

The best way to pick up and dispose of dog feces in an urban
area is to scoop it up with one of the many pooper scoopers
available and put it in a freezer type bag, then tie it closed
or simply flush it down your sewer system. With small dogs such
as the shih tzu the stools are small and even smaller and less
if you use a good quality dog food like HealthyPetNet Life’s
Abundance All Natural Dog food and treats. If you are out
walking, you can carry along paper towels, or a hand full of
toilet paper to do the actual picking up (and you probably want
to keep some plastic gloves handy for this purpose as well).
Carry along some hand sanitizer to clean your hands afterwards.
There are commercial products you can purchase, or you can use
freezer bags or the bag your newspaper comes in. In some areas
there may be rules against putting feces in your trash. In this
case, you can flush it down your sewer system or….after you
have tied it in the freezer bag and placed it in another sturdy
trash bag, this should be enough to keep the odor away and use a
good quality dog food like HealthyPetNet Life’s Abundance All
Natural Dog Food to keep the smell of feces down. That way, your
garbage pick-up people will be less likely to complain if the
odor is contained appropriately. Remember to wash your hands
many, many times throughout the day when you live with pets and
use hand sanitizers. Always wash your hands before you eat or do
anything with mouth or nose contact. I keep hand sanitizer in
the pumps out all over the place so that I can quickly pump a
scoop in my hands and then as soon as possible I also wash my
hands with a good anti-bacterial soap for at least two minutes
each time, scrubbing under my nails and up on my wrists. You
should advise all children in a household with pets to do the
same.
