Escape Gamblers and Poker Players
When talking about gambling or gaming or poker addictions, it is sometimes useful to classify different types of players to understand the root causes of addiction. One of the largest groups of gambling addicts is the escape gamblers or poker players. These players use gambling as a way to escape from the struggles of everyday life.
The problem for escape gamblers comes when they find themselves escaping completely from the everyday demands of life. They are often withdrawn and isolated a situation that can cause an addiction to remain unchecked. They often continue to gambleof play poker to the detriment of everything around them.
Escape gamblers often carry unpleasant emotions with them to the table. This can lead to them going on tilt and losing far more money than a level headed player. It can also cause them to become upset at the table, or feel like losses are their own personal fault.
Escape gamblers are not often found at poker tables because they prefer games that are more luck based. They are typically found at the slot machines, where they are called zombies. A new trend is emerging among escape gamblers, however to use internet poker sites. At these sites escape pokers can zone out in front of a screen for long periods of time with very limited interruption. They often play multiple tables at once and use the preset buttons.
